I Use an Asthma Inhaler. Do I Need a TUE?

It depends on the medication and dose. Four inhaled beta-2 agonists are permitted without a TUE up to these limits: salbutamol 1,600 micrograms over 24 hours (no more than 600 micrograms in any eight hours), formoterol 54 micrograms delivered over 24 hours, salmeterol 200 micrograms over 24 hours and vilanterol 25 micrograms over 24 hours. Any other beta-2 agonist, any other route (tablets or syrup, for example) or a higher dose needs a TUE. If you also take a diuretic such as spironolactone, you need a TUE for both medications. Inhaled corticosteroids are permitted at licensed doses. Asthma applications need lung-function test results, so use the WADA asthma Checklist.
