My vision is to support National Federations in making participation more inclusive and attainable, while fostering both the development of existing flying disc disciplines and the introduction of new ones. I also aim to advocate for the establishment of affordable, accredited regional events recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation, ensuring that opportunities for competition and collaboration continue to expand within our community.
Brian Gisel (CAN)
Flying Disc Experience:
Brian has been a WFDF board member since 2009 and previously from 2002-2007, serving as the Ultimate Committee Chair from 2004-2007. He has also been elected as Vice President for the last four years. He was tournament director of the 2008 World Ultimate and Guts Championships and the 1997 World Ultimate Club Championships and has run several Canadian National Championships. He was the Vancouver Ultimate League Board President from 2009-2012 and has also served on the Ultimate Canada board. Brian is currently the General Manager of BC Ultimate.
Professional and Educational Experience:
Brian graduated from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and spent 20 years working as an IT Consultant for companies in various industries such as Forestry, Education and Medicine. Since 2015 Brian has held the position of the General Manager for BC Ultimate, the Provincial Sports Organization (PSO) responsible for the sport of ultimate in the Province of BC, Canada.
Candidate Statement:
The previous two years at WFDF has been an exciting time as we return to the growth trends experienced prior to COVID. 2024-2025 saw the delivery of very successful and strong Ultimate events around the globe, including the WUC in AUS, WMUCC in USA and WU24 in ESP. Preparations are currently in the final stages for WBUC in POR which will be the largest tournament of the year for WFDF. I have been happy to be involved with the WFDF Event Team to help deliver these events.
Importantly, WFDF returned to The World Games which was held in Chengdu, CHN. 2025 saw the return of Disc Golf to TWG, along side Ultimate. Both disciplines presented flying disc to the World at the top level of the sport and were an extremely successful part of the World Games. We look forward to attending the 2029 Games in GER with both Disc Golf and Ultimate. WFDF continues to work on how to include our sports in other Multi-Sport Games and I fully support the creation of these opportunities for our disciplines and athletes.
Unfortunately, over the last few months WFDF has also faced a significant challenge with the unexpected passing of Volker Bernardi, our Secretary General. I had the good fortune to work closely with Volker since he joined the organization in 2012 and I know his absence will be missed by the WFDF and the Global Disc Sport Community.
At this time the Executive Committee is undergoing a search for a Secretary General, and it is clear that this is a turning point for WFDF as a new leader will step into those very large shoes and lead us with a new vision.
My goal for the immediate future will be in three major areas. Onboarding and working with the new Secretary General, Internal Growth of our National Federation Members and increased Broadcasting and Commercial Revenue.
As Growth is returning to sport, I believe it is critical for WFDF to expand our services for our current National Federation members, and work with Continental Organizations and NFs to grow the sport from the inside. While much focus is put on ""New"" WFDF members, with 120+ members currently part of the WFDF family, overall growth in Disc Sport must come from these members. WFDF can help increase playing opportunities at the Continental and International level, but we must also support our members grow by offering them services to develop Safe Sport, Coaching, Game Advisors, Governance, Communications and Commercial Partnerships. This growth is critical to many of our long term goals, including being included on the Olympic Program.
Over the last 4 years, I have worked closely with stakeholders to redefine how ultimate is shown to the World, and where the cost burden is placed for these services. I'm proud that WFDF is now able to provide broadcast services to our events at no cost to our players. Now that we are not using player fees to cover broadcasting expenses, the next step is to increase the revenue of broadcast so those efforts can help to lower costs for players down the road. I look forward to working with our Broadcast Partners and Local Organizers to help bring down the burden of tournament cost through Broadcast and other Revenue generated by events and other WFDF commercial partnerships.
I have always been very proud of WFDF and the work I have been able to do with the Organization over the years. Having been involved in Disc Sports for over 30 years, I continue to have a passion for our community and I look forward to continuing this work in the future.

Rob has been working full time in professional speaking and frisbee coaching for more then a decade, bringing his skills from his previous professional roles into his current role to promote his programs, book presentations and workshops, and brings those skills into WFDF to help with the promotion of flying disc sports.
Candidate Statement:
Over the past four terms as WFDF Overall Chair, I’ve been dedicated to advancing the reach and visibility of Overall - a sport that, while smaller in scale than Ultimate or Disc Golf, plays a crucial role in developing the fundamental skills that power all flying disc disciplines.
Overall represents the essence of flying disc: throwing, catching, running, timing, and adaptability. Hosting smaller, one- to two-day events featuring core disciplines like Distance, Self-Caught Flight, and Discathon allows players to experience this diversity while building skills directly transferable to Ultimate and other disc sports. These compact events also create accessible pathways for new participants and local organizations to engage, fostering stronger communities with minimal resources.
In recent years, I’ve expanded my focus beyond event organization to global development and collaboration. I coordinated with a coach from China who brought his youth Ultimate players to compete in the World Overall Championships in Sweden - a meaningful bridge between disciplines and cultures. I’ve been in discussions with Chasen to create the Pan American Overall Flying Disc Championships, and I’m actively working with other continental associations to establish regional Overall events that strengthen WFDF’s global footprint.
I’ve also been working with Jake Bell on a video project to bring greater visibility to the Overall disciplines - highlighting not only their athletic depth but their accessibility and fun. Additionally, I’ve been helping develop Overall programs in Iran and Israel, where we’ve recently welcomed passionate leaders from those regions who are doing incredible work to grow the sport locally.
After more than eight years on the WFDF Overall Committee and over a decade competing in Overall events, I remain deeply committed to increasing awareness, participation, and collaboration across all disc sports. My goal is to continue building sustainable systems for growth - connecting local efforts to international opportunities - and inspiring players worldwide to discover the joy of multi-disciplinary play.
As a 13-time Guinness World Record holder, 21-time WFDF World Record holder, and 14-time World Champion, I bring both competitive experience and a global ambassador’s mindset. Through my outreach as a motivational speaker and educator, I’ve introduced more than 200,000 students to the power of frisbee as a tool for growth, confidence, and community.
Together, we can continue building momentum for Overall - one throw, one catch, and one connection at a time.

Chair, SotG Commission: Candidates
Wolfgang Maehr (AUT via ESP)
Flying Disc Experience:
I have played Ultimate and Disc Golf since 2004 in Europe (Sweden, Norway) and in Asia (India, Singapore) participating in several tournaments at all levels across Europe and Asia. Since 2025 I am back in Europe, currently in Spain.
The highest level of Ultimate exposed were WCBU 2015 (IND MO), WCBU 2017 (SGP MO), WMUCC 2018 (OUCH, MO) AOBUC 2019 (SGP X), WMUCC 2022 (OUCH, GMO), WBUC 2023 (SGP GMO), AOBUC 2024 (SGP GMX), WBUCC 2024 (Appendix, X). For Disc Golf I've mainly been playing recreationally and some C-tier tournaments in Singapore.
I’m proud to say that in regards to SOTG, the teams I have played for or Spirit Captained have had good SOTG scores and we were even awarded with best Spirit at WMUCC 2022.
I’ve been involved in growing and organising Ultimate (and other disciplines) in most places I have played and I've been heavily involved in Singapore's Beach Ultimate scene since 2010. Previously, I've also been involved in the Indian Ultimate community for more than 7 years working mostly on the systems and administration side of things, as I had found those to be where I could contribute most.
I've been on the SOTG Commission since 2018, have chaired it in 2020–2021 and from 2024 onwards.
Professional and Educational Experience:
I hold an undergraduate degree in Software Architecture from Austria and a Masters in Interaction Design and Human-Computer Interaction from Sweden.
I've been working for nearly 20 years in the digital products and platforms space in Europe and Asia across small and medium-sized organisations from startups and corporate ventures to design and strategy consulting and self-employment.
My professional focus lies in working on zero-to-one problems, figuring out new solutions to existing problems. As a designer, I have learned to find solutions, collect feedback and process that feedback to refine solutions while balancing contradictory requirements. Through my startup experience, I have learned to figure out sustainable solutions and deliver good enough, rather than aiming for perfect.
I am currently on a sabbatical, planning where to spend my next two decades of work and how to have more meaningful impact.
Candidate Statement:
As a current chair of the SOTG Commission, I’ll be looking to continue the work of the commission, specifically:
1. Continue the growing the global SOTG community and enable the international collaboration as a grassroots effort
2. Continue the development of a unified SOTG framework that can be used across levels, disciplines and sports
3. Consistent training of Spirit Directors and Spirit Captains for WFDF events
4. Develop further tools to improve SOTG
Overall, I aim for the Commission to work closely with the regional Commissions and all the different sports.
To be honest, I am not sure, if I have another full 4 years of chairing energy in me, as it may also depend on my professional career, but my goal will be to progress these aspects and see if I can foster successors to take things forward.

I aim to contribute to the LFDA Board of Directors by applying a strategic, ethical, and development-driven approach to advancing the sport nationally and internationally.
Candidate Statement:
My motivation to serve on the Board of Directors stems from a commitment to advancing the global growth, accessibility, and sustainability of Ultimate Frisbee. I believe that the sport has the power to unite communities, bridge cultures, and promote fairness and inclusion on an international scale.
My platform centers on three key objectives:
-Expanding WFDF Events Globally: Supporting and organizing more WFDF-recognized events across different regions while ensuring they are financially sustainable and deliver long-term value to host communities.
-Accessibility and Equity: Making Ultimate more attainable for less privileged countries by creating pathways for participation, development programs, and resource-sharing initiatives.
-Sustainable Growth and Visibility: Strengthening global communication, partnerships, and funding structures to promote both the sport’s visibility and its long-term impact.
Through my background in communication, event strategy, and sports development, I aim to contribute to WFDF’s mission of growing the game responsibly — ensuring that Ultimate continues to inspire, connect, and include people around the world.
