President
MEAD, Charlie (GBR)
Candidate Statement:
I am already a member of WFDF Board. I see what needs to be changed and will do my best to make those changes and motivate staff to work towards a common end .
I am 71 years of age and am 45 years into my Disc Sport life! The story below will give you a flavour of what I have achieved and attempted to achieve over these years and why I am asking you to consider me as President of WFDF. However, my reason for standing for President again - after a gap of 40 years - is that WFDF needs to return to its primary role of representing all Disc Sports.
In the past 20 years it has become an Ultimate Centric organisation that struggles to support and understand the needs of other Disc Sports. The WFDF Board is made up of 15 Ultimate players and the three Chairs of Disc Golf, Freestyle and Guts. Many of its staff have been Ultimate Players and even sub-contracted staff such as Tim Rockwood have no interest in servicing Disc `golf - in fact undermine all other Disc Sports at the expense of WFDF credibility.
The current WFDF Executive are either actively engaged in undermining other Disc Sports or passively accepting of what the current President says and does. In a statement as to why Disc Golf should not be considered as a sport for the Olympic Games I was not even consulted when the current Executive attempted to sideline Disc Golf as a sport m- despite 15 years of attempting to get Ultimate into the Olympics and falling at every hurdle.
Disc Golf and Freestyle are ideally placed to be Olympic sports. They would have multi million dollar support from the industry and immediate appeal to both broadcasters and event promoters. Disc Golf has 50 companies that make products and promote the sport worldwide. At least five have a turnover of tens of millions of dollars - way outstripping Ultimate. They also have broadcast companies that show world class events on a weekly basis that is viewed across the world - something Ultimate has not even considered yet alone achieved.
WFDF needs a new direction, a new Board and change in the way that it is perceived by both its members and the public as meaningful and broad. AS President I will give WFDF back to that broad community - and make it relevant once more.
Professional and Educational Experience:
Family and Farming are what I do most of now. However, I still practice as a Consultant Child Psychologist working with traumatised and abused children in care and I write the odd article to keep my mind working in the cold winter nights - but I still spend a lot of my time playing Disc Golf , running the WFDF DG Committee and staying in touch with Frisbee Family Friends across the globe.
I have been a Headteacher of a Multiple Academy Trust - 6 schools, 400 children and 400 staff. The schools were all for children with Social,. Emotional and Behavioural difficulties. I had a budget of £6Million ($8 Million) and a senior management team of 25. The schools were outstanding according to Ofsted - the government inspection service.
I have also managed social enterprise organisations with a non-profit status.
I have a BA (Hons) degree and 2 Masters Degrees. I am a qualified Child and Educational Psychologist and have high level qualifications in arborology and forestry. I have been a Registered Chid Psychologist since 2005 - 2024
Flying Disc Experience:
Introduction
I started playing competitive frisbee sports in 1979 as a convert from rugby and track athletics in the UK. My first competitive events were the European Overall Championships of 1980 at Richmond, UK and the Big Belgian Open where I first met Dan 'Stork' Roddick who would become intrstumental in the creation of WFDF.
CONTRIBUTOR - ADMINISTRATOR AND ORGANISER
When the European franchise for Wham-O folded in 1981-2 players across Europe took it on themselves to develop National and European wide federations to keep the competitive and developmental side of Disc Sports going. I started the UK Flying Disc Association and was instrumental in forming the European Flying Disc Federation. By 1983 we were talking about forming a World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and in 1985 I was its first President. I have been Chair of the WFDF Ultimate Committee (1994-2002) and am currently Chair of the WFDF Disc Golf Committee (2016- 2024)
The main priority of the Disc Golf Committee over the past 8 years was to establish the World Team Disc Golf Championship; get Disc Golf back into The World Games in China in 2025, (which we have done) and to create a credible World Disc Golf Ranking system.
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN DISC SPORTS - 1980-2024
I am 6 time European disc Golf Champion in all age divisions stretching from 1982 to 2021. I won my first European Disc Golf Championship title in 1982 in MPO. Since then I have won 5 more Championships.
Though I continued to compete throughout the ’90’s I took a break from European events to play and run Ultimate events worldwide before returning in 2001 with Grandmaster Championship titles in 2005 and 2007. I won my Senior Grandmaster (MP65) European Champions title in 2021. This is unrivalled by any player in Europe.
I have also been British Disc Golf Champion 11 times - throughout the 1980’s and a sprinkling in the 1990’s.
in 2013 I was honoured to be presented with the “Steady Ed” Headrick Memorial Award - still I believe the only International player ever to hold this prestigious honour.
In 2023 I was elected to the World Disc Golf Hall of Fame.
MOST RECENT DISC GOLF ACTIVITIES:
- 2021 European Disc Golf Champion - MP65 - EMDGC Konopiste, CZE.
- 2022 TD - 42nd British Disc Golf Championships - The Jubilee event, Devon, UK
- 2022 Euro Tour Masters - 3rd place MP60
OTHER DISC SPORT INTERESTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
On a World level as a player I represented GBR at Ultimate from 1982-1998. I have seven WFDF Overall titles including a WFDF Masters Disc Golf Championship title in 1989. I have held WFDF Overall Champion titles in Disc Golf and made finals in all the field events at one time or another.
Though we would all recognise that Disc Golf can be a singular sport in competition it would be impossible to play and enjoy without the effort and support of all the staff, TD’s and others who make events possible. I have been fortunate to have played at a time when I have been able to travel and meet so many others of like mind that have joined me in creating and playing events across the globe. Long may the continue!
In 1982 I was TD of the 2nd European Disc Golf Championships and since then have TD’d three European Overall Championships and three further European Disc Golf Championships - the latest in 2012. I have also been TD for WFDF World Overall Championships (1989) and more recently for 4 WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championships (2017- 2019- 2022 and 2024).
I have been TD for more GBR events than I can remember - including the annual pilgrimage to the Isle of Mull from 1992-2018. I have run 12 British Open Championships and hosted events on courses I have built since 1980. I designed and built the longest established Disc Golf course in GBR at Essex University - home to World Overall, and World Disc Golf events between 1986 and 2017.
I have been an educator and innovator for all disc sports in which I have been involved. As Chair of the WFDF Ultimate Committee I introduced Mixed Divisions to the World Championships in 1998; as WFDF Disc Golf Chair I have introduced compulsory inclusion of women in all WFDF Team events. This has seen considerable growth in both the number of women who play world wide but also the number of teams able to enter the World Team Disc Golf Championships growing from 6 in 2016 to 25 in 2022. This last event hosted over 250 players from all four continental groups that play disc sports.
PERSONAL STRENGTHS AND SPIRIT
I have been consistent, respectful and given aspiration leadership for the sport as well as for those that play it. It is hard to recognise and promote those qualities in oneself (a stereotypical view of British understatement but true nonetheless) - however I have asked close friends who play Disc Golf and know me well to help me out with this.
Organisation, Vision and Perseverance in getting things done seems to be the main theme.
One focus has been on events - giving players a chance to compete - at individual or national level with a consistent focus on accessibility, diversity and opportunity. I have tended to be an innovator - but then the ‘maintainers’ arrive and take over and make it a better ‘product’.
The sport is growing from its starting point in Europe as a player led organisation to one where commercial and top down investment is now seen as worthwhile and profitable.
Those of us that have helped the sport grow over the past 40 years are now seeing the introduction of commercial elements as another way of growing all disc sports - however we would also want to see its core values retained.
I think that the best way of explaining this and showing what I believe in is to give you examples of how I have been able to keep Spirit of the Game at the heart of all that I have done. To enable all disc sport athletes to take responsibility for their own behaviour and uphold the rules and code of behaviour demanded by the idea of Spirit is one of my most valued contributions - as Chair of WFDF Committees (both Ultimate and Disc Golf) as well as a TD and as a player.
In 2021 we introduced SOTG as a formal system to the WFDF World Team Disc Golf Championships. This can only really work in a team setting but the values we identified apply to all disc sport athletes and the system was very well received by all 25 countries who took part. The main categories were:
- Rules, Knowledge and Use
- Fair-mindedness and Communication
- Behaviour
We found that having players consider these aspects improved player behaviour, increased social communication and responses and added to the element of respect each team and their players had for others who may have come from a different sporting culture.
RAUCH, Robert "Nob"(USA)
Candidate Statement:
I ask for your support for re-election as President of WFDF. When I ran in 2010, I felt that WFDF was at risk of failing to address the needs of its Members and outlined an agenda with five main cornerstones: communication, events, Olympic Movement involvement (and anti-doping), development, and professional management. Over these last twelve years as President, I believe we have made significant progress in all of these areas. Notably, I believe, was WFDF’s ability to withstand the challenges and financial strains that have resulted from the global pandemic. It had been quite unprecedented and daunting to have had to cancel nearly all of our events in 2020 and 2021, but we have managed to maintain our core staffing and actually expand under the WFDF 3.0 concept of our 2023-2028 Strategic Plan. It is also exciting to see that we have been able to fully resume our complete cycle of international events.
We also continue our work to promote the unification of the Flying Disc family by ensuring that all disc disciplines are showcased and by promoting the unification of disc sport governance under the Olympic model of one national member for all disciplines. Although there is still much work to be done, we continue our strategic collaboration with the PDGA, leveraging off the strengths of each, and we were excited to have 24 national teams at the WTDGC this last year and to get Disc Golf back on The World Games program in China in 2025.
An important objective for me is to continue to try to support our national federation members. We added a full-time position to specifically address member services. We have resumed announcing event schedules two or more years in advance so that national event scheduling can avoid conflicts. We want to make sure that there are no surprises to the extent possible. Our hybrid Congress approach with it being held both in person and over Zoom has worked very well and we are looking at ways to increase two way communication through the use of technology. We will also continue to encourage our member national federations to pursue National Olympic Committee (NOC) recognition – supplementing this with our recent participation and NOC outreach at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly with a booth -- and will selectively be seeking participation in key multi-sports events that will provide more Olympic Movement visibility, which ultimately will provide more financial resources to our members.
I ask you to review my CV, where I outline my involvement with disc sports as a player and administrator since the mid-1970s. I have competed at the highest level of disc sports, with a number of World and US Ultimate Championships with several different teams from the 1980s and 1990s, and have held leadership positions in disc sports organizations since 1987. I retired last year to pursue a PhD in sports management in Germany which has freed up some time for me as well as providing me with an academic perspective on the world of sports. I also provide a bit of information on my extensive business career, which gives me confidence I can achieve what I set out to do. I believe my track record shows that I don’t just have ideas, but I achieve tangible results, and have tackled some difficult situations in my time. Finally, as someone intimately involved in disc sports since the mid-1970s, I believe I have the global perspective that WFDF needs in ensuring it makes the right decisions in the face of today's challenges and opportunities in grappling with the Olympic Movement involvement, anti-doping requirements, financial concerns, and the increasingly competitive nature of our incumbent disc sports.
Thank you for your consideration.

Candidate Statement:
Nakasi Catherine is excited to announce her candidacy for the position of Secretary on the Board of Directors of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF).
My Motivation
Throughout my involvement in flying disc sports, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of the sport — not only as a way to stay active and healthy but as a platform for building communities, fostering inclusivity, and empowering youth, particularly in regions where access to sports may be limited. I firmly believe that flying disc sports have the potential to create lasting, positive change, and it is this belief that drives my desire to contribute at the leadership level within WFDF.

I am especially passionate about expanding opportunities for disc sports players in underserved regions and ensuring that the voices of diverse communities are heard and represented in the decision-making process at WFDF.
If elected my primary focus will be on fostering strong communication, organizational transparency, and operational excellence within WFDF. The Secretary role is crucial in ensuring that the governance of our sport remains clear, efficient, and responsive to the needs of all stakeholders. I aim to work diligently to:

I will advocate for the timely sharing of information, updates on WFDF’s projects, and open dialogue to ensure the smooth operation of our federation.
- Support Global Development-I will work to enhance the global footprint of flying disc sports, especially in developing regions. Supporting programs that introduce the sport to new areas and empowering local communities to establish sustainable flying disc programs will be a central focus. This includes improving access to coaching, equipment, and competition opportunities.
- Foster Inclusivity and Representation- One of my key objectives will be to ensure that the perspectives of players, coaches, and administrators from all regions — especially those that have been traditionally underrepresented — are integrated into WFDF’s decisions and initiatives. I believe that a diverse and inclusive approach will enrich our sport and make it stronger.
- Uphold Professional Governance- I will prioritize the effective administration of WFDF’s Board activities, ensuring proper documentation, record-keeping, and compliance with organizational protocols. My goal is to facilitate smooth Board operations and to provide support for WFDF’s mission through rigorous attention to detail and process.

I will work to establish strategic partnerships that support growth initiatives and increase the financial sustainability of the sport
The World Flying Disc Federation stands at a pivotal moment in its development, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute my energy, skills, and passion to advancing its mission. I will serve the organization with dedication, working collaboratively to ensure that flying disc sports continue to thrive and inspire people worldwide.

During that time, I have enjoyed a positive working relationship with the Chair and other members of the committee and the organization. I have been active in providing input on a wide range of important decisions relevant to the worldwide operation of WFDF’s ultimate activities, from competition and event decisions to decisions about growth, rules and officiating philosophy, and strategic direction. In 2018 and 2022, I was honored to have been involved in supporting the TOC and WFDF in the execution of WUCC in Ohio, and will continue to support WFDF events held in the US (as well as elsewhere).
I am currently involved in policy and program work at the national federation and international level about diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a global society and a sports community, this is clearly an important time to review and revise existing policies to be more inclusive, and I look forward to being part of those discussions.

I spearheaded work with USA Ultimate’s Medical Advisory Working Group to develop safety protocols and Return to Play Guidelines for ultimate in the US, and continue to work to develop safe and responsible options for returning to activity as circumstances and health regulations allow. As we continue to move into the future, I believe my experience working with sports medicine professionals, local organizers, and other sports/event professionals will continue to be an asset in my role on the Ultimate Committee.
I’ve been involved in the sport of ultimate for 30 years, with more than 15 years of playing experience at the national and international levels. I also bring 24 years of experience as a full-time professional sports administrator for ultimate. My experience as Managing Director of Competition and National Team Programs for USA Ultimate will continue to help inform both my own perspectives and committee discussions.

From discussions about middle school practices to conversations about national teams and professional leagues, I have a broad set of experiences from which to draw to help with discussion and decision-making.
I believe in the values that ultimate fosters and promotes through a focus on Spirit of the Game, and I believe in the potential for the sport to grow and spread those values beyond its current community. My plan for the future would be to continue the good work the committee has been doing with the aim of continuing to simplify the rules, converge with USA Ultimate Rules where possible, and create additional resources to enable all players to understand and interpret the rules correctly.
I have participated in many International Ultimate events, as both a player and assistant coach, and I have a good understanding of how Ultimate is played at the highest level. I also continue to play in my local beginner league and therefore also understand the issues associated with teaching new people how to play and learn the rules of Ultimate.
My hope is that we can continue to have a system where players are responsible for making all the calls. I don’t think that self refereeing is just some nice feel good idea about how you can play sport; I actually think it is a really good way to fairly adjudicate sport.

HILL, Si (GBR)
Candidate Statement:
I have volunteered on the Ultimate Committee (UC) for many years and would be delighted to continue to offer my time to WFDF in this way.
I would like to continue to support the UC’s ongoing work to improve WFDF Ultimate Championships in terms of formalizing the approach to bid allocation, competition formats and seeding. All of these areas require ongoing work and I have experience and expertise to help.
The priorities for the Championship Subcommittee in the coming year or so are to
(a) increase the size of the team.
(b) take-over more (ideally all) of the format design and scheduling of WFDF Ultimate events, and document competition design requirements (ideal number of games, etc) to improve consistency and transparency.
(c) continue to build tools to help complete the championship-related tasks (bid allocation, seeding, scheduling) more efficiently.
I am in favour of the Game Advisor programme as a means to support and improve self-officiation. I believe that the GA’s on-field powers should remain limited so that players retain the final, binding decision.
I will also continue to work towards convergence of the WFDF and USAU rules.

I've been fortunate to play, lead or coach various GB teams in different divisions since 1998. I've mostly played in Masters (and older) since 2013, and particularly love to play Beach as it's a bit easier on the body.
